Therapy for When You Know Something Needs to Change, But Can't Seem to Change It
You may have tried to understand yourself, change your habits, manage your anxiety, or improve your relationships. Maybe part of you knows what you should be doing, but you keep ending up in the same places.
You overthink or avoid thinking about it altogether. Pull away when relationships become difficult. Put enormous pressure on yourself. Struggle with shame or self-worth. Avoid things you know matter to you. Or find yourself reacting in ways that don't seem to make sense even when part of you knows better.
Therapy can be a place to slow down and understand what's happening beneath these patterns.
Together, we'll explore the emotions, experiences, beliefs, and protective strategies that have shaped how you relate to yourself and others. Rather than only trying to eliminate symptoms, we'll also aim to learn why these patterns make sense, and what might allow something different to emerge.
If you're hoping to genuinely understand how you tick and create lasting change, we may be a good fit!
Underlying Philosophy
Therapy isn't just about reducing symptoms; it's about changing the way you relate to yourself, others, and life. Lasting change can begin with a big-picture understanding. By making sense of patterns and reactions, we can create opportunities for new ways of recognizing and responding to protective habits built from fear, shame, instinct, and necessity.
"The world is full of bends, so if you didn't have any twists in you, you'd never fit in."
-Sir Terry Pratchett
"In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer. And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there's something stronger, something better, pushing right back."
-Albert Camus
